Vivo's APEX 2019 |
While Samsung and Huawei are drawing our attention with bring us
more (screens), Vivo decided to go the opposite way, designing a phone with
basically nothing but the screen, no more buttons and holes on the body of the
phone.
Vivo has been experimenting with similar technologies, like the APEX
2018’s Screen SoundCasting technology that allowed it to remove its speaker
vents. This time, Vivo went another step further to Body SoundCasting, to transmit
audio through body vibrations, removing the need for speaker vents.
Another cool feature of the APEX 2019 is the full-display fingerprint sensor, allowing you to unlock your phone anywhere on the screen. Not only that, Vivo is bringing it up a notch by allowing simultaneous scanning of two fingers, which would really increase the security of your phone against your girlfriend when you're asleep. You can also press on an app icon to launch it as soon as the phone is unlocked.

Now let's move to some of the concerns that some people and I share, the lack of the buttons, Vivo will be a "Touch Sense" feature that can tell whether a press is made and where it was made. So there will be 3 capacitive buttons on the side of the phone.
As the capacitive buttons rely on software to function, people will worry about when the system experiences trouble or crashes. That's why Vivo included a weak current supply system Touch Sense so that you can still restart the phone in cases where such problems arise.
Another main concern is the USB port, or rather, the lack of it. because wireless charging and data transfer might be too unreliable compared to the plugged in counterparts. But this was precisely a chance for Vivo to innovate and provide a solution for this, which is the MagPort, a magnetic-based connections that will mar the surface of the device.
Vivo guarantees that the connection will be strong and secure, and that you can feel the pull when the phone and the port are just 2cm apart. the MagPort supports 18W charging, and the other end of the cable is a conventional USB plug for data transfers.
As for the specs, the Vivo APEX 2019 Concept will run with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 with 12 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage, the phone will also be equipped with a 5G modem, and with great power comes great heat, and heat is particularly bad for a device like the APEX 2019 which is completely enclosed. Vivo reassures that with their Liquid Cooling Technology that will not be a problem.
With all the new and innovative technologies and design into the device, it might takes quite a while before the APEX 2019 reaches the market, if at all.
