ASMR has been and still is all over the internet. Have you heard of it? Well, ASMR is short for autonomous sensory meridian response, but put simply, it is the tingly feeling you get, normally when you listen to particularly soothing sounds, could be gentle whispers to the ear, gentle tapping sounds or maybe even the sound of raining. There are quite a lot of channels on Youtube providing such content. The image above is taken from one such Youtuber, Hatomugi ASMR.
As for the question, does ASMR really help? The straight-up answer is, no one can say for sure, as ASMR is a relatively new thing, even though soothing sounds have been around forever, it is only recently that we have a term to generalize all these sounds. Results have never actually been conclusive for everyone seem to react very differently to various sounds and there are even people who find sounds like tapping and whispering infuriating to no end.
In conclusion, the effects of ASMR videos are really subjective right now, more studies would need to be conducted before scientists or doctors can come up with a practical application for ASMR, for now, we'll just have to try and see.
Personally, here are some of my favorite channels on Youtube:
