How to keep your diet on track while enjoying HOT POT? It is POSSIBLE!

0

If I have to choose one of my favourite food, HOT POT will be on the top 3 list! Especially the SzeChuan Spicy Hot Pot. Haidilao has FINALLY opened up a store in Sunway Pyramid Malaysia, rumour has it that the store has been seeing long queues even before the opening hours, some people even waited for as long as 2 hours for their turns!

It is now March, we are barely just getting by the first quarter of the year. And most of us, like myself for one, included “Keep Fit” as one of targets on the New Year resolution list. Or to try to shake few pounds off this year. In Malaysia is a paradise for foodies, it can sometimes be hard for Malaysians to keep ourselves from indulging on the delicacies so easily accessible. Even more so if you’re a foodie who values a good hot pot meal as much as your life!

So, we would like to share some tips on how to enjoy hot pot and keep track on your diet! Nutritionists do always recommend people to have a balanced diet. Generally, you are allowed to have what you like when you are on a diet, but moderation is strongly encouraged.

So, let’s take a look at some tips and trick that will allow you to enjoy your hot pot meals to the fullest while being vigilant of your dietary intake.

Basically, the main problem of the Hot Pot is layer of oil that coats the top of the soup, which, at most of the time can be clearly visible, especially on SzeChuan spicy soup bases, mainly they are made from salad oil which is unhealthy fat , unlike olive oil etc, and it is salty, we all known that taking too much salt in our body it will cause water retention that is one of the reason your weight does not go down even a few days after digestion.

So usually it is strongly recommended that when you are having hot pot make sure you have enough vegetables that are high in fiber and cut down on the processed food.

1. Choices of your soup base
Go for multiple soup base, the benefits having hotpot in Haidilao is that you can choose up to 4 soup base which is great as you can taste a variety of soups and not ingest too much unwanted oil.

2.  If you’re a die-hard fan of spicy food
The others way to enjoy spicy hot pot is to pick up your food when the soup is boiling. This is because when boiling the oil layer will be parted to the side, from here you may cook your ingredients with minimal oil , or you may scoop out the extra oil on the top layer of the soup .

3. Take only ingredients
As an Asian, rice and noodles are our essential in our diets. However, they are considered high in carbs and will fill you up very quickly. Take them out from your orders so you can enjoy more of other ingredients. Well vercimillie is still acceptable if you want to, balanced diet = quantity control.

4. Choose Raw ingredients over processed food
The reason behind this is because process food contain unseen fats, carb, it may look small in portions but we are unsure of exactly what goes into processed foods. While raw food like prawns, fish, or any kind of mushroom, they are all healthy with lots of good vitamin, proteins that human needs and most importantly low in calories. However if you are taking meat try to avoid meats like bacon, go for the lean meat instead.

5. Type of drinks
When we are overwhelmed by spiciness, our bodies will start to want you drinking more water. Thus unconsciously, you may take more drinks than usual, and here comes the importance of choosing your beverage. We do suggest choosing green tea or Oolong tea over other favoured drinks. Having tea may help with your digestion too, which is a good choice when you are having hot pot, because it helps prevent you from getting too bloated.
